Mayor's iPad Stolen in Providence

Someone stole the iPad and a leather jacket from Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung's car while he was in Providence listening to the State of the State address.

While Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung was listening to the governor's State of the State address in Providence Wednesday night, someone was rummaging through his car.

The suspect ended up stealing an iPad and a black jacket, according to police, and city officials said they took steps to secure the iPad and protect its data from prying eyes.

Cranston's Chief of Staff Carlos Lopez said the iPad was in the trunk of the car and the leather jacket was on the front seat.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry and Fung reported the items stolen when he got back to his car on Francis Street at around 9:42 p.m.

The city's IT department "took proper protocols," Lopez said. The iPad was disabled remotely and it also has a password.
