No Car Charger for Me? I'll Slash your Tires

A 36-year-old Woonsocket man was recently charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon, vandalism and disorderly conduct after making threats and slashing a man’s tire outside Phred’s Drug on Oaklawn Avenue in retaliation for not giving him a car charger.

Police said they were dispatched to Mayfield Avenue around 12:30 a.m. after the victim called police and said Eric Day, of 70 Main St., Woonsocket, was following him on foot.

The victim told police that he parked his Infinity outside Phred’s Drug to meet a woman at the Mardi Gras nightclub next door. While walking towards the club, Day allegedly approached him and asked for a car charger.

The victim told police he said he didn’t have time for Day’s problems and continued walking towards the club but “had a bad feeling, knowing that Day saw what vehicle he had exited from,” according to a police report.

His suspicions were confirmed when he returned to his car and saw one of his tires was deflating and Day walking away, attempting to throw a folding knife into a garbage can outside Phred’s.

The victim yelled over, which prompted Day to retrieve the knife from the trash and brandish it “in a threatening manner.”

The victim told Day he didn’t want any trouble and began walking away. That’s when police were called and they caught up with Day a short time later on Mayfield Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident. Police found an orange and grey Gerber knife in the trash outside Phred’s and it matched the description given to police by the victim.

Day was arraigned in Third Division District Court and was ordered held at the ACI because he is a probation violator.
