Park Avenue Shut Down Friday for Miss USA Homecoming

Cranston Police said they will completely block Park Avenue in front of City Hall from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Cranston is welcoming home Olivia Culpo, who was  will be honored on the steps of City Hall Friday afternoon.

Culpo, a cellist and student at Boston University, will be given a key to the city and a tree will be planted in her honor — a replacement for a 100-year-old specimen that was lost in a recent storm.

Because the area in front of City Hall will be host to a several-hours-long celebration, announced today that a stretch of Park Avenue will be closed from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The closure will extend from Hayward Street to Pontiac Avenue.

If you're heading east, Cranston Police will direct you down Hayward Street, to Norfolk Avenue, onto Pontiac Avenue and then back onto Park Avenue.

If you're going west, you'll steer onto Pontiac Avenue, to Legion Way and across to Reservoir Avenue.

Detour signs will be posted by the Public Works department to mark the routes.
