Updated: Phred's Drug Robbed

Cranston Police are looking for a man who stole cigarettes and liquor from Phred's Drugs on Oaklawn Avenue.

Cranston Police are searching for a man who robbed  late last night.

The robbery was discovered around 5 a.m.

The store was closed, but the thief managed to get in and take cigarettes and some bottles of liquor, police said.

Cranston Police Major Robert W. Ryan said the "smash and grab" incident was reported just after 5 a.m. by a newspaper delivery person who saw a window on the northwest side of the building had been smashed.

The delivery person also saw packs of cigarettes lying on the ground outside the window.

Store officials said about 20 cartons of cigarettes and some bottles of liquor had been taken during the break. 

Police said evidence at the scene suggests the break-in occured around 11:15 p.m. on Sunday night.

The suspect entered the store by throwing a large rock through the window.

Cranston Police Detectives and the Bureau of Criminal Identification Unit are currently investigating the break and in addition to examining evidence left behind at the scene, they will be working with store officials to review any video surveillance that may have captured the incident. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
