Cranston Police got an assist from the public and rounded up two suspects in connection with the Wednesday armed robbery of the Santander Bank shortly after images of one of the suspects was broadcast on social media.

Police said Jared Seigel, 21, of 185 Vermont Ave., Providence' and Robert Burns, 42, of 151 Leigh St., Warwick, were arrested on Friday after Seigel's photo was posted on the Internet and police soon got a number of tips.

Police said Seigel walked into the bank and handed a note saying he had a gun and he'd shoot if dye packs were put in with the money.

Burns was waiting outside in a car and conspired with Seigel to commit the robbery, police said.

"The use of social media and the cooperation of the public has again assisted investigators with quickly identifying and locating these two felons responsible for this robbery," Acting Police Chief Kevin M. Barry said.

Police did not locate the handgun used in the robbery, but they did find heroin on Burns.

Seigel was charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Burns was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of a controlled substance.

The investigation is ongoing and both men could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
