Police: Man who Crashed into House was Drunk

The 21-year-old Cranston man who drove through the front wall of a Norton Street house early this morning was allegedly driving drunk, according to police.

Now, Randy Salguiero, of 129 Kimberly Lane, is facing charges of driving under the influence, refusing a chemical test, driving without proof of insurance, leaving the lane of travel and a lane  violation.

The crash happened just before 12:30 a.m., police said. A resident at 21 Norton Street reportedly woke up when he heard a loud bang and saw the front end of a white Lincoln crash through his bedroom wall.

“Thankfully no one was injured in the incident,” said Cranston Police Major Robert W. Ryan.

The homeowner told Pezzullo that he could actually see Salguiero through the hole in the wall, still sitting in his Lincoln.

Officer Louis Pezzullo was first on scene and reported that Salguiero was sitting on the front steps of the house he had just crashed into and eventually failed a field sobriety test.

The accident investigation showed that Salguiero was driving west on Nichols Street and when he got to the three-way intersection with Norton Avenue, he didn’t stop “or even slow down” before driving through the intersection, across the front lawn and into the front of the house.

The city building inspector examined the house and deemed it structurally safe.
