Stolen Car Chase Ends with Crash in Cranston

A police chase that began with a stolen car in Pawtucket ended in Cranston yesterday afternoon.

A suspect is now in custody and police are investigating the incident, which began with a report of a hit-and-run accident on East Avenue in Pawtucket around 2 p.m.

Police said an officer tried to stop the stolen SUV on Pleasant Street when it drove onto the sidewalk towards the officer, who fired at the car. Nobody was injured, but the SUV continued onto Interstate 95 and ended up in Cranston.

In Cranston, the SUV blasted down Park Avenue, hitting a school bus near Park View Middle School and other cars before it was finally cornered by responding officers on Arcadia Avenue. It does not appear there were any serious injuries during the pursuit.

Police have not released any suspect names. More information will be posted when it becomes available.
