Teen Jacks Floor Jack, Gets Caught

An 18-year-old Johnston woman is facing larceny charges after she allegedly stole a floor jack from a Wakefield Avenue home — in view of the homeowner, who chased her down and called police.

Tamara Dean, 18, of 1365 Plainfield St., Johnston, was reportedly a passenger in a small red car at around 7:45 a.m. when the homeowner stepped outside of his house and saw her jump out, take the floor jack from his driveway and began running away.

The homeowner, police said, was able to catch up to Dean and kept her in custody until police arrived. That red car reportedly kept driving up and down the street in a failed attempt to pick up the female.

Police said the driver of the car was not found and Dean identified him only as "Paul."

The jack is used to jack up cars and was sitting beside the homeowner's driveway door at the time of the incident.
