Two Suspected Gang Members Arrested after Attempted Drive-By Shooting

Both suspects are affiliated with a Providence-based gang and Cranston Police have responded to the address several times for gang-related incidents.

Two Providence men are in police custody after an attempted Mother's Day drive by shooting on Roland Avenue in Cranston.

Police said Davon McMahon, 19, and Jorge Velazquez, 18, both of Providence, were charged with assault with intent to commit a felony, use of a firearm while committing a crime of violence, conspiracy and three counts of vandalism for an alleged attack on the house at 13 Roland Drive.

Police said after the pair went to the house early in the morning and allegedly damaged several cars in the driveway and threw a brick through a front window.

A short time later, a man living at the address went outside to investigate and McMahon and Velazquez returned in a car. Police said Velazquez then drew a handgun, pointed it at the man and "attempted to fire the handgun several times," according to a release.

The gun never fired and the men fled.

Both Velazquez and McMahon are affiliated with a Providence-based gang and Cranston Police have responded to the address several times for gang-related incidents. 

Cranston police investigated the case with the Providence Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Streets Task Force.

Both men have been arraigned and are being held at the Adult Correctional Institutions.
