Vandals Slash Tires on 23 Cars

Cranston Police are investigating an overnight tire-slashing spree Wednesday night during which the culprit or culprits slashed tires on 23 cars.

Residents woke up to flat tires on Myrtle, Norman, Summer and Davis Avenues, police said, and the crimes were discovered around 7 a.m. Some of the people who were victimized were notified by police who canvassed the area after the initial reports came in.

Cranston Police Major Robert W. Ryan told the Providence Journal that police believe it was a young person who did the crime.

"This is the type of senseless crime that woud be perpetrated by someone in that age group, a senseless prank, senseless vandalism and destruction," Ryan said. "We're hoping that some information can be gleaned from inside our schools."

Along with investigating at area schools with the help of School Resource Officers, police are working with residents to see if anyone had surveillance video running Wednesday night.
