Cranston Police have released additional details about the motorcycle accident last week in western Cranston.
According to police, 47-year-old Lisa Palazzo of Warwick died in the "tragic and unfortunate" crash when she was attempting to pass the motorcycle in front of her.
Police said Palazzo was driving with two other motorcyclists along Oaklawn Avenue. It was around 12:30 early Friday morning. When the three got near Fernbrook Drive, the lead motorcycle, driven by Shane Hodges, 34, of Coventry, slowed down.
Palazzo "apparently did not slow at the same time and she attempted to go around the motorcycle in front of her," said Cranston Police Major Robert W. Ryan.
As she tried to pass, she made contact with the bike and lost control in the northbound lane.
She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with very serious injuries and later died as a result of those injuries.
Hodges lost control slightly, but was not injured, police said. The third operator was identified as Nicholas Peretta, 33, of Warwick. He also lost control and was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
"None of the three operators were wearing helmets at the time of the accident," Ryan said. "The Cranston Police Traffic Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Identification Unit responded to the scene and investigated the incident. There have been no charges filed in the accident."
