Would you Pay $100 for an Overnight Parking Permit?

City Council once again considering an overnight parking program.

The City Council is considering piloting an overnight parking permit program that would give Cranston residents the right to park on the street for $100 per year.

City residents would get a permit from the Cranston Police Department as long as they could prove residency. Fakers would be fined $250 if caught.

Only Rhode Island-registered vehicles would be eligible and all outstanding parking tickets and motor vehicle taxes must be paid.

No commercial vehicles would be eligible.

For leased vehicles, owners can get a parking permit as long as it is principally parked in Cranston and a copy of the lease agreement is provided.

Parking permits would not be available to people who live in an apartment or condo complex with five or more units.

The city would issue two parking permits per address.

A similar measure failed to get traction in 2012
