Wrong Way Driver Faces DUI Charge

Police said Doreen Drake of North Kingstown was driving the wrong way on Route 37 Friday night.

A 34-year-old North Kingstown woman was charged with driving under the influence after she was allegedly crashed her car while driving the wrong way on Route 37 in Cranston.

Rhode Island State Police reported that Doreen Drake, of 90 Salisbury Ave., North Kingstown, was charged with driving under the influence at around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Police said the arrest was the result of troopers responding to a crash on Route 37 "following several 911 calls to the Lincoln Woods Barracks advising of a wrong way driver," according to a police report.

Drake was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where she refused a blood test. She was arraigned before a Justice of the Peace and released pending a future court date in Third Division District Court, police said.

Lets not go crazy slamming the poor girl here. She made a mistake and will pay the price for it-we've all been there before, thank God nobody was hurt. I blame the bartender and her friends who actually let her drive.

Did anyone consider that she was Ketoacidosis?? Possibly that her sugars became out of control & the smell of high sugars is as sweet as alcohol and a diabetic attack appears as intoxication?? This girl has a family who loves her!! That state is such a mess with the highest number of welfare and entitlement in the country. The mayor of Providence went to federal prison!! Too many idiots in such a small area and very little opportunity for those who aren't Ivy league. I will accept your arrogance as ignorant. Innocent until proven guilty - so unless you are perfect (doubtful), keep your opinions to yourself! One of the seven habits of "highly successful people" is not to assume. There you've learned something new - happy to help!! Oh yes, we must not forget "innocent until proven guilty"!!

Good points, and luckily she walked away from the error in judgement if you will. I think many of us are upset with the lack of DUI enforcement and slap on the wrist. Just looking at that Cranston Man that had a .157 BAC of pot and booze when it should have been .08. You're right, we have nothing to go by here.....and if it was a friend or bar than they have the heavy concious. But sometimes, its when you hit the air outside that your sugars seem to really make you unstable.

Then maybe she shouldn't drink at all. They posted a picture of her with a glass of wine. Really? We all have to deal with the consequences of our choices. Hopefully she will do better in the future.

There are so many local establishments that OVER SERVE YES OVER SERVE and they never lose their right to serve. That TIP certified means zero!!! All they care about is the $$$.

Why did she refuse a blood alcohol test
David Lafleche December 10, 2012 at 11:26 PM
No, a "mistake" is when you "forget to carry the 2," or misspell a vocabulary word. What Doreen Drake did was a SIN and a CRIME, and she's lucky she didn't kill anyone! "When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again." What a loser!
