Did you Hear the Sonic Boom?

The boom was reportedly caused by fighter jets from the Mass. Air National Guard.

Earlier this week we felt the ground wobble thanks to an earthquake in southern Maine. If that wasn't rattling enough, residents across the city, especially in western Cranston, were shaken some more thanks to a sonic boom caused by a fighter jet yesterday.

The boom occurred around 5:10 p.m. Residents said it was scary, loud and confusing.

On Facebook, Cecelia Frusher said she looked out the window because she thought someone's house got damaged by something.

Cheryl Hogan said she was watching the Cranston High School East freshman football game at Cranston Stadium when she heard it. "I wasn't even sure what it was at the time," she said. "It was kinda scary."

Amy Jones Buchanan lives in Warwick. She said it sounded like "a truck coming into the front yard. I thought there was an earthquake aftershock.

The planes were reportedly from the Mass. Air National Guard. A call to their public affairs office was not immediately returned. We'll post more information as it becomes available.
