Fung Kicks Off Mayoral Campaign Tonight

Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung is looking for a third term.

Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung will be kicking off his mayoral campaign tonight at

Doors open at 6 p.m.

"I am eager to gather with the people who have supported me in my efforts over these past several years and excited to share my plans for the upcoming election season," Fung said in a release.

Fung is in his second term as mayor. This upcoming election is notable for whoever wins the mayoral race. For the first time, the winner will serve a four year term instead of a two year term.

Last November, voters approved a measure that increased the mayoral term from two to four years.

So far, nobody has officially announced they'll challege Fung for the mayor's job.

Just remember folks....this time around it's a four year term thanks to the clueless voters approval of that bill last election...Remember Mr Fung has voted for or has been involved in voting for every property tax increase in the last 10 years except for this year because he is obviously pandering for your votes

I think four-year terms are more appropriate for executive positions (e.g. mayor, governor, president) which gives them time to implement their policies and have them be in effect for long enough to see their effects. Requiring them to be re-elected every other year keeps them in constant campaign mode rather than focusing on their actual job. (I voted for the 4-year mayoral term.)

A four-year term also makes it easier to attract better talent for positions within the City.
