Langevin gets Star of Education Award

The National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium (NASDCTEc) announced that Rhode Island Congressman Jim Langevin has been selected as a Distinguished Service Congressional Award winner. The announcement came at the consortium’s Star of Education awards and spring meeting.

“As co-chair of the Congressional CTE Caucus and a longtime supporter of job and skills training programs, I am honored to accept the Star of Education Award,” said Langevin. “It is our duty to provide a strong education for all students, and that must include robust career and technical programs. These programs prepare our youth for the careers that are available today and will continue to grow in the future. Investments in CTE are returned many times over through a skilled workforce that serves to strengthen our economy.”

Langevin was honored along with his fellow Career and Technical Education Caucus co-chair, Glenn “G.T.” Thompson (R-PA). As Co-Chairmen of the Congressional CTE Caucus, Thompson and Langevin have been vocal champions of CTE and have a proven track record of raising awareness and understanding of the CTE enterprise among their Congressional colleagues. The Co-Chairmen have held congressional briefings on the importance of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act, spearheaded letters to the executive branch and congressional leadership on the value of investment in CTE and have consistently made a compelling case for CTE’s positive economic impact and return on investment. Their years of tenacious advocacy on behalf of CTE was the driving force behind the NASDCTEc Executive Board’s decision to honor each of them with this Distinguished Service—Congressional Award.
