Mattiello to run Unopposed

Speaker of the House, Cranston's Nicholas Mattiello, does not appear to have a challenger for the House Dist. 15 seat this year.

Speaker of the House and Cranston Rep. Nicholas Mattiello has always faced competition come election time, but not this year.

Mattiello, who became Speaker of the House after a dramatic turn of events earlier this year that led to the resignation of former Speaker Gordon Fox, a raid at the State House and the revelation that the State Police are investigating the 38 Studios debacle, is running unopposed.

Mattiello filed his papers to run again earlier this week but records show nobody filed papers to compete against him for the House Dist. 15 seat.

The Providence Journal reported that Mattiello said that he thinks the lack of opposition might be because people "are comfortable with me."
