School Committee Candidates Debate Tonight

Meet the candidates and hear them talk about the issues tonight.

Don't forget — tonight is the night to see the candidates for School Committee debate the issues.

BASICS and Cranston Patch are teaming up to sponsor this debate, which will be held at the Cranston Senior Center. The debate starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be hosted by Cranston Patch editor Mark Schieldrop.

Cranston Herald Editor Meg Fraiser will be the timekeeper.

It's your last chance to submit questions to be asked of the candidates. Send your questions to mark.schieldrop@patch.com.

Other than open house, I have NEVER seen my school committee person at ANY school function/event/program. SO disappointed!!!! Guess it's about the votes, not the kids.

BASICS is pleased and proud to sponsor this event with the Cranston Herald and Patch. We look forward to working with Meg Fraser and Mark Schieldrop. We thank both of them for their support.

It is all one big joke. What are they debating? Where the surplus went? Now that should be interesting.

That's odd Nicole. Consistently, I have seen some of them at numerous events actively supporting the schools, and not just in an election year, but during their entire term. Be careful not to judge all because of the actions of one or a few. Apparently, for some, it IS all about kids and community, not the votes.

To TruthHonorValor, I specifically stated MY school committee person. 3 levels of schools,(elem., middle & high school) and they are NOWHERE to be found. Wish I could have gone to to debate, and see if they were. I know there are members who are dedicated and I try not to be jealous, but I think maybe it should be written into their job requirement to attend 1 school function at every school in their ward once a school year. Is that REALLY too much to ask? No, I don't consider open house a function!

Cranston Patch, Cranston Herald and Basics sponsor the school committee debate and no reporting on the topics or how it went. Is it on any site or will there be an article published. Could not attend BUT would be nice to know what went on. Thanks

Below is a link the the closing remarks of the debate. Note that my opponent had left after her opening remarks so she could attend the RIPEC annual meeting. Also note that this event was a reception, dinner and speaker for about 1000 people. Now you know her priorities. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISi4hT5MygY&feature=youtu.be

This is the article that Meg Fraser wrote for the Cranston Herald. Brian Dupont, I hope this helps. http://cranstononline.com/stories/BASICS-school-debate-focuses-on-finance,76096

On election day I personally will remember those who voted to remove the school prayer....SO disappointed in those members.
