Cranston High School West just got a check from Stop and Shop for $6,846.29 — thanks to customers who registered their loyalty cards in supermarket giant's A+ School Rewards Program.

According to a release, 391 Rhode Island schools got part of a $270,000 pot for scholarships, technology, sports equipment, field trips and other educational needs.

Cranston landed third in money earned overall.

In total, Stop & Shop is donating $2.5 million to more than 2,200 public and private schools for the 2012-2013 school year. Since the program launched in 2009, $7 million has been donated to local schools throughout the Northeast.

“Stop & Shop is excited to see the continued community support of the A+ School Rewards program this year,” said Joe Kelley, president, Stop & Shop New England Division. “The program is an easy way for parents and customers to give back simply by shopping for groceries, and we’re proud to be a supporter of schools throughout the region.”
