CLCF 10U Team Opens Cal Ripken State Tourney with a Bang

The CLCF 10U team, last year's 9U State Champions and New England Regionals runner up got their bats and pitching off to a great start.

The 2014 Cal Ripken Babe Ruth League State Tournament got under way Monday, July 7, 2014 at Ricci field in Cranston, RI.  

The 10U championship this year is being hosted by CLCF in Cranston.

Alex Marot started on the mound for CLCF.  After a scoreless top of the first inning, Matthew Barbarino lead off the bottom of the first with a base hit, was moved over to second base by a sacrifice bunt by Andrew Travieso and came in to score the first run of the game by an RBI hit by Tyler DiNezza.  

West Warwick came back and scored a run at the top of the second inning.

In the bottom of the second inning, Preston Kermen reach first base on an error and scored on an RBI double by Ruben Fernandez. Kermen also came in to pitch the top of the third inning for CLCF, gave up one hit.  

In the bottom of the third inning, Matthew Barbarino lead off with a double, Andrew Travieso followed with a walk, Alex Marot also walked, Tyler DiNezza hit a 2 RBI double, Cole Carbone got hit by a pitch, RJ Fatorma reached on an error, Preston Kermen got an RBI hit, Ruben Fernandez reached on an error and Evan Dacey got a base hit. 

This gave CLCF a 10-1 lead after three innings.  

Kermen continued to pitch the top of the fourth inning and had a one, two, three inning.  At the top of the fifth inning Andrew Travieso took the mound for CLCF and also had a one, two, three inning.  

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Ruen Fernandez lead off with a walk and stole second, went over to third base on a hit by Evan Dacey and scorred on a past ball by the pitcher to give CLCF the win 11-1 over West Warwick in game one.  The CLCF pitcher's only gave up one hit.

Teams in the 2014 State Championships are: CLCF (Cranston), West Warwick, Washington Park, Apponaug and Jamestown.  Winner travels to the New England Regional’s to represent Rhode Island in Exeter, New Hampshire.
