CLCF 10U Win State Cal Ripken Championship

The team is now gearing up for a run at the New England Regionals, which will be held in Exeter, NH.

It's a repeat for the boys on the CLCF 10U baseball team.

The team, which won the Cal Ripken Babe Ruth League RI State Championship last year as 9-year-olds, came home with the state trophy again this year after a confident 8-0 win over Washington Park on Sunday.

The team is now gearing up for a run at the New England Regionals, which will be held in Exeter, NH.

The win comes after dominating victories against West Warwick, Jamestown and twice against Washington Park, scoring a total of 40 runs and letting opponents squeak by just one run against them.

In Sunday's play, Andrew Travieso got the start on the mound for the championship game for CLCF and pitched a no hitter in four innings while racking up seven strikeouts along the way. 

“I tell him just to go out there and throw strikes and that is what he does," said team manager Craig Barbarino.  

Preston Kermen came in to pitch the fifth and sixth innings only giving up two hits. 

CLCF's runs came in the top of the first inning. Matthew Barbarino lead off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Alex Marot, who then scored on an RBI double by Cole Carbone.  

In the top of the second inning RJ Fatorma lead off with a double, Evan Dacey reached first base on an error scoring Fatorma, Ruben Fernandez hit an RBI single to score Dacey and scored on a ground out by Mike Panichas.

In the top of the third, Andrew Travieso lead off with a walk and got caught up in a rundown between second and third which to the amuse of the crowd went for a while, back and fourth, until he finally got tagged out, Alex Marot walked and scored, Cole Carbone and RJ Fatorma walked, Evan Dacey got an RBI walk and Ruben Fernandez also got an RBI walk.  

In the top of the fourth, Matthew Barbarino walked, stole bases and came in to score on a pass ball, given CLCF’s an 8-0 lead.
