CLCF 2-0 in 10U New England Regionals

The boys in the Cranston League for Cranston's Future 10U team are smacking the ball around the park and have a commanding 2-0 record so far in two rounds of play at the 2014 Cal Ripken Babe Ruth League 10U New England Regional Tournament.

The tournament got under way Friday, July 18 at Sawyer Park hosted by Exeter, NH.  After a luncheon and a fun filled day of meeting and greeting teams from all over New England the team got ready to compete in some competition skills and representing was Mike Panichas, who took home the outfield challenge trophy for CLCF.

On Saturday,  CLCF squared off against a very loud Quincy, MA team.

Alex Marot started on the mound for CLCF.  Quincy got on the score board first at the bottom of the first 1-0.  The CLCF bat attack came in the top of the third inning when Evan Dacey getting on base first after being hit by a pitch. Ruben Fernandez followed with a double, Preston Kermen hit a 2 RBI double, Matthew Barbarino got a single, Andrew Travieso bunted for a hit, then they both were driven home by a 2 RBI double by Alex Marot.

In the top of the fourth, CLCF scored on a hit by Cole Carbone, a walk by RJ Fatorma, a walk by Fernandez, a RBI hit by Kermen and a sacrifice fly by Owen Smith.

Quincy scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and in top of the fifth, Marot got a double and scored on a RBI hit by Tyler DiNezza.  DiNezza also came in to pitch in the fourth inning to close out the game.  Final score: Cranston’s CLCF 7 Quincy, MA 5.

On Sunday, CLCF played a very strong Seacoast, NH team.  

CLCF got the place cheering in the top of the first inning when Barbarino lead off with a base hit, Travieso followed with a bunt single leading to Marot who cleared the bases with a three run blast home run.

Preston Kermen got the start for CLCF on the mound.  Seacoast scored two runs in the bottom of the first.  

In top of the second, CLCF told Kermen they had his back when Travieso got a single, Marot got a single, DiNezza an RBI single and Carbone an RBI single to put two back on the board.

CLCF added more runs when in the top of the fourth inning, Marot lead of with a single, DiNezza a single, Carbone a 2 RBI double, Fernandez walked, Kermen was hit by pitch and Fatorma smacked an RBI hit.  

In the bottom of the the same inning, Seacoast scored a just one run.  

Travieso came in to pitch in the middle of the fourth inning and to close out the game and held the New Hampshire team scoreless until the end.

CLCF, meanwhile, wasn't done putting numbers on the board. In top of sixth inning, Fatorma lead off with a hit by a pitch, Evan Dacey walked, Jacob Chin got a bunt single and Barbarino walked scoring Fatorma. Dacey scored on a hit by DiNezza.  

CLCF by the end had scored 12, beating the Seacoast, NH team 12-3.

The CLCF 10Us resume play on Tuesday night, July 22 at 8:00pm against regional host, Exeter, NH.
