Cranston's Corvese is Cox's Football Player of the Year

Nobody should be surprised, really.

Cranston's Alex Corvese, a driving force behind Cranston High School East's berth in the Super Bowl this past year, has been named Cox Sport's Rhode Island Football Player of the Year for 2014.

The star quarterback received his award at a banquet Wednesday night at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston.

The annual awards highlights the best and brightest athletes Rhode Island has to offer, and Corvese, who broke every passing record in the history of Cranston Football, was an obvious choice for the judges.

The quarterback threw for 3,259 years this past season for 36 touchdowns and with just four interceptions in 291 pass attempts.

After getting his award, Corvese, who goes by @corvnation on Twitter, thanked everyone for all the kind words.

"Love y'all #BoltNation #WORK" he said.
