Edgewood Eagles Cheerleaders Dominate at Nationals

After storming to victory at regionals, The Edgewood Eagles Cheerleading squad went to Disney World for the National Pop Warner Championship earlier this month with the hopes of performing well and representing Rhode Island.

Did they ever!

The cheerleaders dominated at the competition and took home three national championships.

And the Varsity 1 Squad also received two special awards: Best Choreography and Best Overall Score in the Nation.

"I cannot be more proud of the girls, boy and coaching staff," said Lori Sweeney, cheer coordinator. "What an accomplishment for all."

Here's how they ranked:

  • PeeWee Squad — National Champions
  • Jr. Varsity Squad — National Champions
  • Varsity 1 Squad — National Champions/ 2 special awards: Best Choreography and Best Overall Score in the Nation.
  • Varsity 3 Squad — 2nd Place
"They represented their team, association, the city of Cranston and New England region well!" Sweeney said in perhaps the understatement of the year. "The teams already look forward to next season."

The Edgewood Eagles are offering a continued cheer program from Jan. to April 2014. For more information, check out www.edgewoodeagles.org.
