Police Investigating Fight at Cranston Stadium

Cranston Police are investigating after a fight broke out at the East-West senior game at Cranston Stadium on Saturday.

Police confirmed they're looking into the circumstances surrounding the fracas, which broke out towards during the Rhode Island Football Coaches Association East-West Senior game.

The fight involved numerous players and forced officials to call the game before it was over.

Steve Stoehr, the former president of the association, said it was disappointing to see the activity on the field get so ugly.

"It doesn't look good for the association," he told NBC10. "I am very disappointed something like that takes place. I think coaches should be able to control that."

Police said they weren't told in advance that there would be a game on Saturday. Capt. Gerard Carnevale said police are looking into that as well.

This is a disgrace to the City & why wasn't the CPD told about this so they could do a detail. Their presence makes things more peaceful as "some" people fear the law! Whoever is responsible here should be suspended without pay!

I'm hearing Steve stoehr thought he was "tough enough" to do it himself and the goal was to save money by not hiring cops. Typical trash in cranston in a trash neighborhood. I would charge stoehr w crimes against humanity and give him 10 years in prison. Where Suzanne arena?? That's my girl!!!

This game has nothing to do with the city of Cranston. Media are ridiculous. The game was west Rhode Island against east Rhode Island so a dozen of schools were represented. The fight was in the last two minutes and the game was played on Saturday the 28th. Those are facts. Here is what the media made it sound like the fight broke out ending the game early. Yea two minutes early. Then they make it sound like it was east west Cranston highs. Wrong again. Then they say cops didn't know for days. This was played on the 28th and on Sunday it was in the news. Media sucks

As a taxpayer here in Cranston, it certainly does affect the City of Cranston as it was on THEIR property Anne. If there were serious injury's or even a death guarantee, we'd Cranston would be named! I feel the Director of Parks n Recreation should have asked to see the paperwork for the detail they hired! Cranston doesn't need anymore negative publicly or law suits thanks to the administration. Besides our Director of Parks n Recreation is an embarrassment to the City interviewing with his sunglasses & his arrogant attitude! Where is the Mayor in all this, not micro managing again! LOL Clearly the Mayor or someone in his office should have handled this interview!
