Garden City Summer Concert Series Kicks off Wednesday

This year marks the 25th year of the popular summer concert series that combines music, fun and a charitable effort to benefit the Rhode Island food bank.

Can you believe that it has been 25 years since the first Summer Concert Series began in Garden City Center?

It's true, and after all this time, it still brings hundreds of faithful attendees to the popular destination shopping center in Cranston to dance and soak up summer fun -- and get some shopping done along the way.

This year, the fun begins on Wednesday, July 9 at the gazebo at 6 p.m. And like prior years, Garden City Center will be collecting donations of peanut butter and tuna fish to be delivered to the Rhode Island Food Bank. Each year, an average of 380 pounds of food is donated.

"This has become such a wonderful community event," said Janice Pascone, director of marketing for Garden City Center. "Our patrons get to enjoy live music and at the same time help those less fortunate through their donations to the RI Food Bank."

This year’s lineup, which features a wide variety of musical talents, includes the following bands:
• July 9: Steve Anthony & Persuasion
• July 16: Erika Van Pelt & Band (American Idol Alum)
• July 23: Disco Inferno
• July 30: Dominic and Orchestra Romanza
• August 6: Down City Band
• August 13: The North East Groove
• August 20: World Premier Band

“At Citizens Bank we believe in giving back to the communities where we live and work,” said Barbara Cottam, EVP, RI Market Executive and Head of Corporate Affairs, RBS Citizens. “We are proud to once again partner with Garden City to bring this free, family-oriented event to the community.”

In case of rain, concerts will move to Thursday night.  Scheduled performances may change due to rain date.  Please call 942-2800 x22 for more concert information.
