More Flooding Possible as Storms Move Through

Strong storms moving through the area threaten to cause more street and river flooding.

Heavy rain hitting the area could cause more street flooding in Cranston, a day after storms brought serious flooding to the Oaklawn Avenue area, forcing some residents to evacuate.

Strong thunderstorms are moving over much of Rhode Island this afternoon, dropping heavy rain across the already drenched city. As much as an inch an hour of rain is expected throughout the storm, likely causing streams and small rivers to overflow, and creating hazardous driving conditions as roads flood.

The rain — heavy at times — is expected to remain in the area through the afternoon, tapering off in the evening. Temperatures will cool to the low-60s after sunset.
