OUTRAGE - Alliance for Safe Communities - Press Release re: Cranston's Shirley Goon-Donnelly who was Murdered 2 years ago

Imagining what it feels like to have a child murdered, and further knowing that you have to appear in Court only to learn that nothing is ever accomplished and you see no Trial in sight?   At each Court hearing consisting of 25+ hearings, as a parent you expect the Courts to bring justice to your child's murder.

Carolyn Medeiros, founder of the Alliance for Safe Communities went to Walt Buteau, Target 12 Investigator, as she argues saying there's been plenty of time to put Komrowski on trial.

On June 9, 2011, Cranston police found Shirley Goon-Donnelly, 38, tied up and beaten in her Cranston apartment which investigators say was set on fire after the murder. Mathew Komrowski, who was her ex-boyfriend, was arrested the next day. Department of Corrections records indicate he had been released on June 8 after earning 448 days of ‘good time’.

“The family is getting nothing but more frustration and pain and suffering,” Medeiros says. “They're being further victimized. And we see this over and over. Domestic violence needs to stop being put on a back burner.”

There are two issues:  1)  The Attorney General says they are still in the pre-trial stage and it takes a long time to gather information (apparently over 2 yrs).  So why do we the tax payers have to pay for these Court Hearings?  Why not just one hearing to announce the upcoming trial.  Families should not have to go through this process.   2)  Good Times.  This Bill that Chaffee signed into law along with all the Legislators that passed giving time shaved off sentences that are already reduced is insane.  We need to repeal this law.

Candlelight vigil on Sunday.  The Goon-Donnelly’s loved ones will gather at Dexter Field in Providence on Sunday to mark 2 years since the murder.
