Today, American Airlines rejected a Passenger based on T-shirt wording

American Airlines denies a woman from boarding to a connecting flight

Today, May 24, 2012, American Airlines denied a woman from boarding to a connecting flight.  The airlines stated that she was wearing a pro-choice T-shirt with an obscenity about what she might do to a Senator.  The captain of the woman’s flight, made her exit and scolded her because of her T-shirt which read:  “If I wanted the government in my womb, I’d f--- a senator,” and said told her that she would have to change beforeboarding her next flight!  “This conversation led to me missing my connecting flight," the passenger told RH Reality Check.  Her
abortion stand had nothing to do with the captain's response, according to an
American Airlines spokesman. “The only reason she was asked to cover up her
T-shirt was the appearance of the F-word on the T-shirt," he explained.
"The outcome would have been exactly the same had the message been
anti-abortion.”

American's"contract of carriage" states that the airline can bounce passengers
if they're "clothed in a manner that would cause discomfort or offense to others"—though that's widely open to interpretation. "The irony is that she went through several layers of personnel and was allowed to fly," one attorney told MSNBC. But another travel attorney points out that it's ultimately up to the captain.  "If he thinks other passengers may get upset, it becomes a safety issue," he added.  The woman boarded a later flight, and was wearing a shawl to cover the shirt.

As a mother, a woman with a class outside the "redneck population", I do
find this sort of thing offensive and I applaud a private company for taking a
bold move and rejecting any service with such filth on a T-shirt.  The flip side
is, this sort of thing is on bumper stickers and all over the place as we do
not live in the post-90’s anymore.  Foul mouthed, Offensive nudity/ Genitalia has become mainstream.  Our children are daily exposed to explicative’s which that I find hard to digest.  My grandmother raised me old world with class and morals and she set me up….for disappointment.  I am similarly raising my children the same way and courteous actions such as “Opening the door and holding it” are become lost in our culture.  They stand out and I fear finding a worthy spouse will be difficult – LOL!  I digress…..the American Airlines ousted passenger will sadly sue and win a big settlement.  Where O Where is the ACLU for me?
