Decoding Dyslexia in Rhode Island - Grassroots Movement

Currently organizing "Decoding Dyslexia in RI", which is a grassroots movement which started in New Jersey over 22 months ago.  There is currently 29 participating U.S. states.  Why is this Grassroots movement sweeping the country?  Because approximately 20-25% of the population has Dyslexia and there is an epidemic of children with this disability.  Currently they struggle in our schools through 1 and 2nd grade and when they reach the 5th grade, they are typically reading at 2nd grade level.   One could say this is alarming and how could it happen?  How could it happen that the 5+ parents I monthly speak to about their child's reading struggles....ALL parrot the same thing about scoring well on I.Q. but now that they are not able to keep up and it is clear they don't know how to read.  It is very disturbing and someone needs to change.  I can't get the news media to take stories on Dyslexia.  Why??  They would rather talk about a apparitions, snow sculputures and celebrities.  Who cares, certainly not the Dyslexic 6th grader who doesn't read the newspaper.

My mission for starting this entity here is the same as NJ: "Driven by RI families concerned with the limited access to educational interventions for dyslexia within our public schools. We aim to raise dyslexia awareness, empower families to support their children and inform policy-makers on best practices to identify, remediate and support students with dyslexia in RI public schools."

Here is a recent example of concise and simple legislation surrounding Dyslexia in New Jersey.   https://www.capemaycountyherald.com/article/government/trenton/94201-bill+requiring+state+adopt+internationally+recognized+definition+dyslexia+now+law#anc-comments

Here is New Jersey's founding FB page:  http://decodingdyslexianj.org/

Volunteers sought to run this with organizing online and I need someone with website abilities. The FB page logo is easy, but I need website savvy people to just needs to be created and we will obtain the links from the New Jersey founders.

Looking for people that are passionate about creating a movement to change the way our Education system so it works with Dyslexic children.  Wanted, Students, Parents & Friends, teachers, etc. 401-440-2579.

Thank you, Suzanne
