Edgewood Eagles Raise $830 for Great Danes

The Edgewood Eagles Cheerleaders didn't let the heat stop them from working hard to help Great Danes on Sunday, washing cars and collecting donations for Great Danes Around New England Rescue.

The Edgewood Eagles Cheerleaders braved the heat on Sunday to help out Great Danes in need of rescue, rehab and adoption.

They scrubbed, rinsed and dried enough cars in front of to raise $830 in donations for Great Danes Around New England Rescue, a nonprofit that rescues and takes care of Great Danes in need.

The car wash was free, so all the money came in the form of donations, including one from a member of the . If you saw a glistening police car on Monday, it was probably the one the cheerleaders took their sponges to.

Along with the cheerleaders, volunteers who work with Great Danes Around New England Rescue took turns washing cars and staying cool under the shade. With them was an entourage of the stately dogs, tounges wagging in the heat. A Great Dane is known to be loyal, affectionate and playful. Don't be alarmed if a full-size Great Dane tries to sit in your lap. They also make great working and service dogs.

The car wash was part of the cheerleaders' "Giving Back" initiative.
