Public Asked to Help Collect Personal Care Items for Needy Veterans

Family Service of Rhode Island is in the midst of collecting personal care items for local veterans in need.

With thousands of veterans living in Rhode Island - and many more continuing to return home from recent deployments in the Middle East - the need for the community to lend a hand is greater than ever.

An alarming number of veterans are homeless or having trouble finding work and returning to a normal life after serving. Often, a fresh pair of socks, a toothbrush, shaving cream, deodorant and other personal care items can make a big difference and provide a major spiritual boost.

Items can be donated through Friday, March 28 at Family Service of Rhode Island's locations at 134 Thurbers Ave. and 55 Hope St. in Providence.

Items will go into tote bags that will be given to veterans as part of the "Totes of Hope" drive sponsored by the American Red Cross Youth Council.

A complete list of acceptable items to donate can be found at www.familyserviceri.org
