Monday Essentials: Arlington Library Reopens, Fung's Run

It's shaping up to be a busy week here in Cranston, but Monday might steal much of the thunder.

Fung: Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung is expected to announce he's running for Governor on Monday. The announcement is at 10 a.m. at Taco, Inc., a leading city manufacturer that has been a hotspot for Republican rallies and political announcements over the years. Though Fung's run comes as no major surprise to anyone (he's been mulling a bid for months), his announcement will set the stage for a potentially interesting Republican primary, thanks to Ken Block's decision to run as a Republican as well.

Arlington: The Cranston Public Library is proud to announce that the Arlington Branch Library will re-open to the public on Monday, November 4th at 12pm. The library located in the Cranston Senior Center at 1064 Cranston Street has been closed for a complete renovation since May of 2013. The redesigned library was funded by a grant from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development spearheaded by Senator Jack Reed, A dedication ceremony will be scheduled for mid November.

Meetings: Lots of meetings this week. On monday, the Claims, Public Works and Safety Services and Licenses Committee meet tonight. The Board of Contracts and Purchasing meets Tuesday along with the City Planning Commission. The Tax Assessment Board of Review meets on Wednesday and the Revolving Loan Committee meets Thursday.
