City Council to Tackle Food Trucks, Police Contracts

Food Trucks: The Safety Services and Licenses committee meets tonight to take a look at a new attempt to regulate food trucks. The detailed ordinance up for discussion is a sea change in terms of what a food truck policy in Cranston would look like compared to current regulations. Instead of prohibiting trucks from operating within 1,000 feet of any business that sells food, truck owners could get a simple food truck vendor license that incorporates inspections, locations and route approvals, fees and everything else.

Union Contract:
Two special City Council meetings this week, each addressing union contracts with police officers. On Monday, the council is introducing two new business items representing contract years 2012 to 2013 and 2013 to 2016 respectively.

Scams:
Every day, it seems like there's a new scam making the rounds. Head over to the William Hall Library on Thursday at 2 p.m. to hear from Amy Schram from the Better Business Bureau, who will be discussing the most common scams and fraud out there. She'll spell out the warning signs and how to protect yourself.

Exhibit:
Be sure to check Earth, Sea and Sky — a photo exhibit at the Central Library featuring landscape photographs by 10 students in the 2013 landscape class at the Rhode Island School of Design. The exhibition has 40 prints showcasing nearby locations in Rhode Island.

School: The School Committee meets Wednesday at 9 p.m. Much of the agenda revolves around the committee's continued review and updating of district policies. Often, it's to align local policy with state standards.
