Monday Essentials: Contract Award, Sunny Weather, Troop 66 Open House

School: The School Committee meets Thursday night at the Briggs Building at 845 Park Ave. The agenda? The committee is set to approve an arbitrator's award in the negotiations between the district and the secretaries union. According to a fiscal impact statement, the award includes no raises for 2013 to 2014 and will save the district $221,307. We'll post more this week.

Planning: The city's Planning Commission meets Tuesday at 7 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall. The agenda includes a master plan review of "the Fountains at Chapel View," a major land development for Power Road in the Chapel View complex.

Site Plan: The Site Plan Review Committee meets Wednesday to review a request by the owner of the Sam's Food Store property at 460 Pontiac Ave. to expand the building to include a restaurant use in the store. 

Fall: It's autumn, but the weather will have glimpses of summer yet again this week, according to the National Weather Service. The high temperature on Wednesday, for example, will be 82 degrees. There's not much rain in the forecast at all, either. The forecast includes no rain forecasts all the way through Friday. If you plan on going apple picking, this isn't a bad week to do it.

Obamacare: While the implementation of the Affordable Care Act remains a contentious issues in Washington, D.C., local officials are still working to implement the state's health care exchange and other details of the changes. On Wednesday, HealthSource RI is offering a presentation at the William Hall Library to discuss and demonstrate how to use the new online portal to find health insurance. The event is free and open to the public. Check our calendar listing for more information.

Boy: Thinking about the Boy Scouts? If not, your child might be.
