<p>The Cranston Fire Department is a large professional fire department with six fire stations and 13,000-call annual workload. In addition to fighting and investigating fires, the department, led by Chief James Gumbley, handles emergency medical services.</p>
<p>The department was a pioneer in the development of a metropolitan rescue services. Today it operates a hazardous material response team and manages the Emergency Management Agency, which operates shelters and plans evacuation routes.</p> <p>For emergency calls, dial 911 or 401-461-5000. </p> <p>All business calls should go to 401-461-4161.
