It is unfortunate that many well meaning animal lovers have been fooled by the HSUSRead More propaganda…showing pitiful dogs and cats and asking for donations. How much does the HSUS donate to the care of dogs and cats? Less than one cent per dollar donated. How can one confirm this? Simply check out the tax filings at the IRS. They have to list how their donations are spent, and it is all there. In terms of local shelters, HSUS helps them…how? By doing an analysis of their functions…and CHARGING them for that! So, it isn’t for free. Check with your local shelter for this information. How does the HSUS help animals? By promoting laws against their keeping, their breeding and their use, whether for pets or for food. Why do we have all these laws against owning more than 2 per 3 pets per household? Why do we have state and local laws mandating the spaying and neutering of all dogs and cats, with extremely high fees for any exemptions? Why do we have national laws promoted to eliminate all exotic pets as invasive species? All these laws have been crafted with the help of the HSUS, to further their agenda of NO ANIMALS. No pets, no poultry, no circuses, no rodeos, no hunting, and no medical research. When you do the math, very few donated dollars end up helping any animals. They sure do help the HSUS folks though, with nice retirement funds and a great assist in lobbying and campaigning for more donated dollars. What is really laughable is that the HSUS supporters always accuse animal owners and users of being GREEDY… guess they are pretty hung up on money issues…because this greed complaint would be more accurate if attributed to the HSUS. The facts are in the IRS tax filings. Thankfully, we are seeing more animal lovers waking up and stopping their support of the HSUS, an organization that is working to remove animals from humans. The HSUS agenda goes against every ideal of freedom of choice that this nation was found upon.

OK so, it seems to me that no person on here that commented has contacted their rep to get theRead More purpose of this bill. I am the person who had contacted rep chippendale to draft this bill. A few points: 1 This bill would NOT open a hunting season on otters! This bill would put the authority back in the hands of RIDEM to manage otters if need be. 2 Rhode Island is the only state on the east coast without and otter management plan in place because of this law. 3 River otters are the only native species in the state that RIDEM cannot manage 4 River otters are over abundant in this state. If you walk around most lakes, pond or rivers in RI you will see otter sign everywhere. They are mostly nocturnal, that is why they are not seen when walking through the woods on a daily basis. I will ask, how many other species do you see while walking through the woods? 5 I have had many calls over the years from people with trout ponds that were decimated by otters, ornamental goldfish ponds that otters have ruined, baby pet ducks that have been killed all at once by otters...etc. 6 Those of you who think we should "hunt" representative Chippendale, you are just showing your lack of intelligence by making threatening comments! 7 There are literally hundreds upon hundreds of proposed bills put forth by state reps each year on behalf of constituents. I agree this bill would not end potholes, put people to work, lower taxes etc. But if a constituent feels it is something that needs to be addressed, your rep will do their best to move it forward for you.

Last I checked, the economy in RI is the worst in the Country...what is happening to your tax $$,Read More your lottery $$ for education now. What makes you so sure the $$ from pot will be funneled to REALLY improve the state? Have the State Legislators said how this $$ would be used? Or are you just giving them more $$ to squander? For the people who are currently smoking illegally, are you doing so with your small infant children, grandchildren, and other family members present? Have you asked them if they want to be included in your recreational habit? Are they also getting high from your second hand smoke? Parents are supposed to be protecting their children from influences that could harm them...that is why we have safety car seats etc....what would you be doing to them now. Dr.'s tell their pregnant patients not to smoke, drink, eat shell fish, and not to take an aspirin. But, as soon as the child is born you will expose them to a substance that could be harmful to them. Also, I understand that there is a law on the books in RI for parents who get caught DUI with children in the car. No doubt there was a need for that. I believe the legislators helped that law get passed and saw the dangers there. All of a sudden now they see revenue! Clearly the state needs more ideas or a different group to who will have the ideas to change the economic climate in RI without jeopardizing everyone else.

Really? Who buys alcohol on the "black market"? Legal pot seems to be working fine alreadyRead More in Colorado. Legalizing all drugs would ensure crappy heroin isn't Killing off dozens of people and the taxes from drugs would go toward getting people off drugs for good. Putting people in jail for drugs, the US solution to the drug problem, obviously has not worked one whit. I an tired of paying for our bloated justice system and I'm ready to try something new. We couldn't do any worse than we 're doing.

Jack, thank you for presenting your righteous indignation which both mirrors and buttresses my own.Read More I offer solution based ideas backed with real technology that will not only directly address and solve plastic waste problems but with it comes jobs, but no one has put forth the requisite means to advance the proposed solution to the sustainable reality that it is. The machinery that I am referring to converts waste plastic bag, styrofoam and plastic buckets into oil, which can be used directly as home heating fuel or diesel fuel, and the actual recovery cost per gallon is about 30 cents. Imagine, home heating oil for 30 cents per gallon while creating jobs and a burgeoning ancillary industry, i.e. technicians, engineering methods to harvest fallow plastics, etc. BUT, in RI with unemployment at obscene levels, those with the means to advance my project to reality have no interest in anything other than self interests and idle rich self indulgences, or so it appears after 3 years of pushing this rock up a steep slippery incline! Let's just arrest people for using bags, I just do not see the benefit. And yes, the sponsor of this bill mentioned in this article is a member of ALEC as are a dozen more of our elected officials. Maybe we should ban conflict of interest politicians.

Rhode Island really needs to stop looking for the quick fix and get serious about change. Start byRead More looking at the name of the state: Rhode ISLAND. We are currently wedged in between two of the highest taxed states in the Union. If we create an economic island in between these two states, an island with less regulatory-red-tape, with more aggressive STATE-WIDE tax incentives (not just the ones that drive 52-year old businesses out of state), people will come to Rhode Island for things like gas, cigarettes, clothing, tourism. Take advantage of the things we have that make business more competitive: I-95 corridor, rail, short and global shipping...Then, incentivize schools to not just encourage students to go to college, but to learn a trade, and invest in domestic manufacturing. Why should we subsidize URI to make students who will enter the RI (9.2% unemployment) Job market? They're just going to leave RI to find work...subsidize building a manufacturing base here in little Rhodey. All this BS about a quick fix is going to keep the status quo...oh, and you know what else will keep the status quo? Re-electing our state leaders who have been driving us into the ground. And if you think it's everyone else's fault and your local rep is working for you? Guess again, they are part of the culture that is driving us deeper and deeper into the hole.
