DCYF needs to be watch them self because I dealt with them for many years. Not all DCYF WORKERS areRead More bad but the last two I dealt with should be fired they did what they wanted signing papers behide my back with out my permission and I blame them two for my adopted son who never got in trouble when he was with me. DCYF steps in and he is in jail for 8yrs for holding up a pizza man. Somebody needs to go undercover and see how the treat the parents and adopted parents they wouldn`t have a job if it wasn`t for adopted perents like me. Thet never answer there phones and they say they never got the message so now the last few years I dealt with them I call there office and I call 1-800-RICHILD. So I`am taperecorded. Just had to vent because I`am so tried of them getting away with everything.
Kathie Cole July 17, 2014 at 04:05 pm
I don't like the system they have. I have been in childcare for about 20yrs and about 10 yrs ago IRead More worked at Child Care Connection. I was a whistleblower for all the horrible things they did and so the director tried to coerce me into thinking I did something I didn't do so they could get rid of me. She also had a friend at DCYF so the company did this to at least 3 other people that I know about. I fought it and so I could work and now I am back to being disqualified and I haven't been nvestigated since then for anything at ALL!! AND yet I had tenants above me that were so abusive to their kids and I could hear them constantly threatening to beat them. I would call DCYF and even gave them my name and they NEVER came once! I was proven innocent and yet it will be on my record forever. It seems they can do whatever they want and get away with it! A lot of them are very rude and treat you as if you are automatically an abuser. There needs to be oversight when it comes to DCYF!
Dawn Perry July 17, 2014 at 04:59 pm
Kathie Cole, you have no idea what they put me through if I told the whole story, it would blowRead More everyone`s mind and there is one thing I don`t do is throw anything out that I get from DCYF. My adopted son when he was on RI Most Wanted not a police office or DCFY Person came to me and My Name is on his birth certificate. This was in Nov. 2013 and still as of today nobody contacted me.

The Senate President is too busy awarding Magistrate and other state jobs to her friends and donorsRead More to think about the roads.
Bob July 17, 2014 at 07:31 am
This is not news anymore, but what should be is the cops sitting in their cars on the computers orRead More cell phones at every construction detail in the state making what ???...like $59 an hour....maybe you could put those $$$ towards some road repair....
Don Thela July 20, 2014 at 08:21 am
This is due to the fact that every election we hear about what the candidates will do for ourRead More infrastructure, but our roads are worse than ever. Think before voting!
Don Botts July 21, 2014 at 01:34 pm
The ordinance was withdrawn because the tax assessors office is already doing this. I asked theRead More assessor if he thought this ordinance was necessary and he said no. After further discussion, it was withdrawn by the sponsor. It should also be noted that homeowners that improve their houses receive a 5 year tax exemption on the valuation of the improvement. This is something that is already on the books and there are requirements that have to be met, but it is currently available to single-family homeowners. There is talk of extending it to multi-family homes as incentive for landlords to upkeep their properties.

Nicole - I think the only enforcement will be NO pick-up if you don't follow the rules. The bottomRead More line is your trash is your responsibility. As for renters leaving stuff on the sidewalk, the landlord owns the mess. No change there.
Joanne Spaziano July 1, 2014 at 04:00 pm
How about if you just keep the bins and use them inside and then when full take them out to the bigRead More containers outside the house? Or even better, put the recycle container under the kitchen window and just drop the recycles out the window and save yourself the trip!
nicole fine July 1, 2014 at 08:18 pm
Chris12, I hope the City has a plan better than NOT picking it up. Can you imagine the rat problemRead More that will happen with items left curbside? People don't shovel their sidewalks now, picking up their trash will not be their priorities.

Who is surprised that "cranston" put a negative comment on here? What is your problem withRead More teachers? Either you had a really bad experience and you can't move on, or you secretly are jealous and want to be one. ( never could pass the courses). Really you sound obsessed, you might want to talk to somebody about this. In all seriousness, just because you are a taxpayer does not mean you have right to make presumptions and judgements about an entire profession. I wish you would share whatever lowlife career you have so all teachers could come pay a visit and rate your ineffectiveness. Oh yeah I forgot that unemployed people who still live with their mom don't get out much, never mind hold a real, meaningful job.
nicole fine June 23, 2014 at 08:40 am
Balducci is NOT a teacher. He is in charge of the schools money and books. There are ALWAYSRead More questions about where money is, and naming/labeling of accounts.
bruins011 June 23, 2014 at 01:32 pm
@cranston what a surprise you'd bash teachers, again. This coming from someone either making minimumRead More wage(to lazy to get a higher education) and is jealous of people smarter then you or unemployed and milking the system for benefits that the taxpayers are supplying.

What a lot BS. Climate change won't destroy RI. Lack of decent jobs, lowering taxes and bringingRead More industry back to RI will destroy RI. Put your efforts into these areas, people. Set your priorities. Otherwise, climate change means nothing to a dead state.

This sets the stage for crony capitalism and a panel of democratic political appointees who continueRead More to suck the taxpayers dry that have to fund this moronic bit of legislation. Good for the future? How about now? The unemployment rate in Pawtucket, Providence and Central Falls alone is about 35%.

Not exactly correct George in my opinion. Though they were "moral Bond" which means thereRead More was risk because the State was not liable to pay the investors back. Though once one payment was made that option went out the window obviously. Good article about this here. It was all done through the RIEDC. http://www.bna.com/rhode-island-economic-development/ The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) Nov. 1 filed a complaint against Wells Fargo Securities LLC, Barclays Capital PLC and former Major League Baseball pitcher Curt Schilling, among others, in Rhode Island Superior Court (Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation v. Wells Fargo Securities LLC, R.I. Super. Ct., docket number not available, complaint filed 11/1/12). The allegations in the complaint arise from the RIEDC's issuance of $75 million in bonds to Schilling's 38 Studios LLC, a video game development company, which filed for Chapter 7 protection June 7 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware along with three affiliates (24 BBLR 822, 6/21/12). 38 Studios is not named as a defendant in the complaint. Issuance of Bonds The RIEDC is a “quasi-public corporation created … to promote certain economic policies of the State of Rhode Island,” according to court documents. The complaint alleges that defendants Wells Fargo and Barclays acted as “placement agents” in connection with the issuance of the bonds to 38 Studios. In 2012, the RIEDC issued the bonds to “finance a loan to enable 38 Studios LLC to relocate to Rhode Island, complete production of a massive multiplayer online video game called Copernicus, and to capitalize the company's growth and expansion in Rhode Island,” according to court documents. However, 38 Studios subsequently filed for bankruptcy in June 2012. Undisclosed Risks The RIEDC alleges that 38 Studios's failure was due to “risks that had not been disclosed to the [RIEDC] board, but were or should have been known by” 38 Studios and the defendants. The complaint alleges that the defendants knew that “even with the loan from the [RIEDC], 38 Studios was undercapitalized by many millions of dollars and would not have nearly enough money to relocate to Rhode Island and complete Copernicus, and that, as a result of this cash shortfall, 38 Studios was likely to run out of money in 2012.” The complaint also alleges that “Wells Fargo was earning nearly $500,000 in hidden commissions from 38 Studios at the same time that Wells Fargo owed fiduciary duties to the [RIEDC] Board to disclose all negative material information concerning 38 Studios' business plan and financial projections, including the shortfall.” The complaint alleges 17 counts against the defendants, including, among others, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, negligence, legal malpractice, and breach of implied covenant of goof faith and fair dealing.

Minimum wage is a joke! We had minimum wage put i place to give a head-start to people entering theRead More work force, it wasn't designed to support a family. You enter the workforce and get the experience to grow within your chosen occupation not just wait around for the government to give you a raise!
PMarandola June 25, 2014 at 11:43 am
@Ralph sadly most employers only use Temp labor therefore the only raise the people get is from theRead More government! 99% of the agency's pay themselves nicely & NEVER reward the workers. I see it all day long! PIGS GET FAT HOGS GET SLAUGHTERED!
Ralph June 25, 2014 at 12:37 pm
Employers are hiring temps is due to our great government not allowing small business to plan aheadRead More and loading them down with new laws and regulations making it more profitable to hire temps and not pay for medical benefits etc! Minimum wage will not change that but a change in idiots sent to Washington will help!

Fair and equitable contracts for all bargaining units of the Cranston Public schools are in orderRead More here. The school committee is attacking the lowest paid teacher assistants. Pay those people a living wage. They work one on one with students who are most at risk. They have to take the Praxis in order to be certified. They are the LOWEST paid teacher assistants in the state and you still want to cut into their pay. This is not just about the teachers. Secretaries were forced to take "furlough days" better known as days without pay as cuts in their paychecks! The custodians took a big hit so that the school committee would not privatize. Oh and by the way, privatizing the FOOD SERVICE in Cranston has led to a huge LOSS not a SAVINGS! And the food in the cafeteria...well...ask your kids! Think things are getting better? Better take those rose color glasses off and start looking at the reality of the situation. The school committee broke the law therefore an Unfair Labor Practice has been filed and not the first one. As a resident and tax payer in Cranston as well as a proud teacher in the Cranston school department I see this from both sides of the fence. Start looking at the facts and then form your opinion instead of basing your opinion on heresay and dribble that turns up through comments posted by those less than informed.

It's not so much a Democrat/Republican issue that is destroying the state, it's everyone in theRead More General Assembly that has ties, had ties, has family with ties or just plain owes the PUBLIC UNIONS. it'd be great to get a little more information. does keeping the lights out at night, in winter,Read More help to keep them away from your house? i noticed hundreds of moths outside last winter, attracted to our deck light, and now our beech is barely breathing. would putting one of those blue light "bzzzt" bug zappers help, or just attract even more? does putting a sticky ring around the trunk of your tree work? i'd read that some people have had success with that as the caterpillars hatch in the ground and climb up the tree before they start attacking the leaves. introducing another non-native species to an area just sounds like a recipe for disaster. see cane toads in australia. shouldn't we have identified and prepared for this trend years ago? classic american approach...wait until after the disaster and then react, because preparation is "too expensive."

Bricker June 3, 2014 at 03:47 pm
The moths lay their eggs on the tree in the winter. Larvae start out by eating the bud and thenRead More become caterpillars that resemble inch worms. The caterpillar then eats the leaf.
