The Fernandez family of Cranston got to meet Samboni, the mascot for the Providence Bruins.
Local hockey fans met Providence Bruins mascot Samboni during the recent, first annual "Walk for Wishes" at the Warwick Mall. The walk was to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Children and their families walked together along with members of the Providence Bruins "and many others celebrating the hope, strength and joy that wishes bring to children with life-threatening medical conditions," according to a release. Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung donned an apron and grabbed an ice cream scoop Tuesday night as part of what has been billed as "the World's Largest Ice Cream Social" to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Cranston's own Mayor Allan W. Fung took on a new job last night as an ice cream scooper at the Chapel View Cold Stone Creamery. It was part of a month-long fundraising celebration put on by Cold Stone Creamery locations to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Throughout September, the ice cream shops are selling paper wish stars for $1 each. It all lead up to what was billed as "the World's Largest Ice Cream Social" on Sept. 27. Cold Stone Creamery locations gave away three-ounce samples of "Sprinkled with Wishes," an ice cream sundae with moist brownie, rainbow sprinkles and fudge along with an encouragment for visitors to make a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Massachusetts and Rhode Island recently granted 14-year-old Michael Gay, a Cranston resident, a trip to italy. Gay is diagnosed with Fabry's Disease.
Michael Gay has dreamed of visting Italy since he was a young child. That dream is coming true thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which granted Gay the opportunity to travel to the European country to visit aincent ruins and monuments and taste authentic Italian food. Gay, who is diagnosed with Fabry's Disease, a rare disease caused by the lack of or a faulty enzyme needed to metabolize lipids, attended a send-off party at Antonio's Restaurant on Thayer Street in Providence with his family recently. There, he learned how to make homemade thin crust pizza. Gay will be accompanied by his family during the week-long vacation.

Joshua Tedeschi, 13, got the chance to meet pilots from the U.S. Navy Blue Angels at a private reception at the Rhode Island Air Show in Quonset thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Tedeschi, a Cranston resident, and more than 30 other children had the opportunity to take pictures and receive autographs from the pilots, famous for their aerial acrobatics. The legendary pilots inspire many youngsters the dream to become pilots themselves. Tedeschi's wish to go on a Disney Cruise was granted in April 2011, according to a release. The foundation grants wishes for children with life-threatneing medical conditions in an effort to enrich "the human experience with hope, strength and joy," the release stated. …
