Former Furniture Employee Charged with Embezzlement

Police say Robert Snead of Warwick transferred money from a corporate card to his own personal checking account.

A former employee of Contemporary Furniture and Stools in Cranston has been charged with felony embezzlement by both Cranston and Johnston Police after he allegedly transferred himself thousands of dollars from a company debit card to his personal bank account.

Police said Robert Alexander Snead, 22, of 18 Freeman St., Warwick, was fired from his job at the end of May. As the former director of operations, Snead had access to the Bank of America corporate debit card to make purchases from vendors.

On April 24, Snead reportedly went to the Bank of America branch on Atwood Avenue in Johnston and transferred $1,500 into his own personal checking account.

Snead also made a similar transaction in Cranston.

Snead was arrested on June 28 and arraigned before a Justice of the Peace, who set bail at $30,000 with surety. He was held as Superior Court violator due to previous charges until a review on July 1, after which he was released on personal recognizance.

Snead is due to return to court on Aug. 20.
