Police ID Person of Interest in Reservoir Ave. Shooting as General Jones, 27

Cranston Police have identified a person of interest in connection with the Tuesday broad daylight shooting on Reservoir Avenue.

Cranston Police said General Jones, 27, with a last known address of 179 Roosevelt St., Providence, is wanted in connection with the shooting and may be driving a 2006 white 4-door Buick Lucerne with Rhode Island registration 904-891.

Anyone who sees the vehicle or Jones should not approach but immediately call Cranston Police at 401-942-2211.

Although Cranston has been dealing with gun and gang-related crimes spilling over from Providence for years, this most-recent shooting rattled Cranston residents who don't expect gunfire at one of the city's busiest intersections in the middle of the afternoon.

The shooting happened around 4:33 p.m. on Reservoir Avenue at Lambert Street, just by the J.D. Byrider used car dealership. Police haven't released many details about the incident, but detectives said shots were fired from one car into another multiple times. The intended target of the shooting was injured and drove north into Providence where he eventually stopped near a police cruiser.
